Ken Maynard, a famous western movie star, is seen here sitting in the cockpit of his J6-7 Stearman biplane. During the 1933 NAR, he participated in a grudge race against another actor, Hoot Gibson. Gibson flew a J-5 Swallow that he had borrowed from Jim Granger. During the race, he crashed after a steep turn going around the third pylon. He survived the crash, but the plane was destroyed.
